Bio

Dead Earth

Dead Earth was formed in November of 2017 by front man Jack Sabolich. The name Dead Earth came about after a drive through the city and seeing all the trash on the side of the road, it was a wake up call to what we as humans are doing to our planet, and also a tribute to the zombie horror movie genre.

The band would record it's first 6 song ep entitled Pollution a few months into their existence, at Mercenary Studios in March of 2018 and release it in July of 2018. The same lineup would than continue to write and play a very busy schedule of shows throughout 2018. In April of 2019 the band would return to Mercenary Studios to record the full length entitled Truth Hammer. The full length was released in August of 2019 and in October 2019 the band replaced guitarist Eric Jankowski and drummer Brian Shea with guitarist Joe DeFrank and drummer Matthew Kollar.

2020 hit the band pretty hard with the departure of bassist Bob Semancik and lead guitarist Mark Hardy, but Dead Earth continued on with singer Jack Sabolich, guitarist Joe DeFrank, Matthew Kollar-drums, and former Sappy Bell bassist (and fellow band mate of Matthew Kollar) Jeff Ready. The band continued to write new songs and developed a much heavier, thrash sound,  and a new found energy that was not yet unleashed on the previous releases.

In December of 2021 the lineup went through a drastic change for the better. With the addition of Ernesto Colon (formerly of Merauder NYC) joining the fold in December of 2021, Dead Earth went back to the drawing board and decided to move the band in a much heavier direction. Curran Murphy (former Annihilator, Nevermore guitarist and current 72 Legions, and Custom Audio Mutation guru) joined the mix and brought with him bass player Dan Gates (72 Legions) and drummer Colton Zietler (72 Legions). Dead Earth hails from Cleveland, Ohio and is influenced by the cold, dark, gloomy weather, and the blue collar, heavy industrial steel mill town from which they come from. The band writes music that relates to every day problems that many people throughout the World deal with on a daily basis Their unique brutal sound, is definitely something for all Metalheads to check out.

Dan Gates- Bass

I became a fan of 80’s thrash metal as a teenager and wanted to play guitar so that I could play my favorite Metallica riffs. I played guitar in a band called TON for most of the 90’s. We played all over the U.S. and released 4 demos as well as 3 full length albums. More recently I have released music with another band called Mutual Hostility. Although I have been primarily a guitar player for 30 years I do play bass occasionally for recording purposes and I look forward to hitting the stage as the bass player of Dead Earth!

Colton Zietler -Drums

Influences (bands): Slipknot, Linkin Park, Whitechapel, I prevail Influences (drummers): Joey Jordison, Mike Portnoy, Matt Greiner Drumming just always came naturally. I started playing when I was 3, and got serious when I was about 12. Most things as I got older I was not as naturally good at, but drums always came naturally. Drums and music in general always made sense to me, when the rest of the world usually doesn’t. So playing drums is always where I feel at home and where I feel like I’m following my purpose. -Colton 🤘
